  Some Good Things Never Last
It's three in the morning
You're nowhere in sight
And all that i wanted was
To be with you tonight
I've watched love get closer
And then fade away
I've seen you believe in me
I've seen you trying to stay
But what good is holding on
When you know that all
You can think about is letting go
They say if you love someone
Then set them free
If they come back again
Then in the end it was meant to be
I thought we were lovers
I thought we were friends
I guess when reality steps in
The dreaming ends
We live for the future
We learn from the past
No matter how hard we try
Some good things never last
All you can think about is letting go
Be true to yourself, my love
That's all i ever wanted you to be
Just don't forget to smile
When you think of me
I' ll reach for the stars
I have got them in sight
There's someone who really needs me
Out there in the night
We'll live for the future
We'll learn from the past
No matter how hard we try
Some good things never last
Why can't they last?

-Some Good Things Never Last by Barbara Streisand

It has to be one my favorite songs. I must admit that for most of my favorite songs, the love for melody comes first before I am able to comprehend and relate to the lyrics. After all, the first time I appreciated this song was when I was still in high school. And I felt I want to sing that song too. While searching for its multiplex version (very 80's), I discovered that it wasn't lined-up as one the popular hits in her compilation like "Evergreen", "The way we were", or "All I ask of you". I wondered if was her original or just a version. So I ended up usually singing it acapella.
From then on, I continued my musicality even if singing would mean being just in the confines of my room. Most of the time, I was singing and hearing my songs only for my personal consumption ( I would record my own rendition of songs of my favorite artist usually with the aid of minus one or multiplex tapes or while playing my guitar). For a while I wasn't singing my Streisand song. Not until I luckily find it in the videoke selections of my friend Maru. On my visit to their house in Lumban, we spend the day chatting for hours, then singing videoke. Then, I found the song. I hurriedly ask Maru to play it because I'm dying to sing that song. IT turned out well, or so I thought. Also, I discovered that it's play time is longer that other songs and that it doesn't repeat any of its stanza. After some more selections, I rested for a while. Maru seemed to be searching for something on their disc player, when suddenly I heard my singing voice. IT turned out that Maru secretly recorded my rendition of the Streisand song, and I must admit, I am pleased as well (ha ha i-appreciate ba ang sarili !).
According to Maru she still keeps the record. She has played it occassionally and she tricked others into believing that it was her who's actually singing (she laughs as she tells me the story because others won't believe her unless she sings it live). Ha ha ok lang Maru na maging ghost singer ako!
BUT come to think of it, the message of the song is true "No matter how hard we try some good things never last". When reality sinks in, the dreaming ends. It keeps your feet to the ground, reminding you that for most of the things you possess, you will come to a point of losing it. Talking of good things and losing it will leave us feeling short of something or worse, empty.
So now I'm a lyrics person he he, I think so. Well not bad.

  Ira's 1st birthday party
Nothing's gonna harm you
Not while I'm around
Nothing's gonna harm you
No sir, not while I'm around
Demons are prowling everywhere nowadays
I'll send them howling
I don't care I got ways

-from Sweeney Todd

I've got reasons to celebrate, I'm a mom, doing good, keeping effective time management, maintaining social life with friends, having positive thoughts at the start and at the end of the day, looking forward to being the first person Ira smiles at as soon as wakes up in the morning (actually before I leave for office, I wait for her to wake up just to see her wink and smile the sweetest smile)...It was a year of living a beautiful life, fulfilling dreams, whispering hopes and dreaming my dreams...how time flies, now Ira is a year old...still smelling like dried milk and baby powder.....can't wait to see her walk, a real walk, walk her way towards me, as if I'm the only person she trusts. It's a celebration of my vow to always love her, take care of her, and be the best person I can be for her to look up to, to give the best environment for her to grow up in.

Ira just turned a year old. She was born on January 10 and this year we managed to celebrate her 1st birthday party the way we imagine it to be. Indira Mariel, who's nickname I have occasionally changed from Ira to Mariel to Rara, depending on her playful mood and my eager way to get her attention invited her fairy pals and superhero friends to a carousel & magical fairy birthday celebration in Pixie Forest in Alabang. Much as we would like to have the party on the exact day of her birthday, we anticipate a much exciting and fun-filled celebration if we can gather all our family and friends on a better mood, that is a weekend, so Jan 14 became the magical pixie fairy party for my baby. The fairy tales, where everything starts at once upon a time and long long ago actually starts here...

  'La lang...

Ok tapos na bakasyon (those 2 days - Sat & Sun are precious!)...We left Antipolo on Jan 2 at almost 8 pm (iwas trapik). Before heading towards C5, we passed by Tiendesitas in Ortigas - an upscale tiangge with lots of interesting shops and colorful lights at night. Ira is awake (as usual). La lang, we just stayed there for less than an hour. Can't stay late because Marvin still has this phobia of driving along SLEX. La lang, that day kasi, nabasag yong windshield nya because: someone threw something to hit it or something simply hit it (where it came from? that's the question!)

Buti na lang he wasn't on the passenger side that time. Being quite sleepy, he requested his companion, Rico, to drive instead. He transferred at the backseat to watch DVD. Then along SLEX, approaching Skyway entrance, it happened. They cannot identify anymore what exactly hit it (big rock or steel bar perhaps). Trained with defensive driving techniques, they managed to maneuver safely without creating some more accident. They reported the incident in C5 police station and received lukewarm response from police officers "wala naman tayong mahuhuling gumawa nyan". Actually, it was the second reported accident on that same area. Hello!, check nyo kaya yong area or bantayan para hindi na maulit yong incident na yon. hay naku!

Name: Jingks
Location: Philippines

Born on the date when people wouldn't miss sharing a gift, raised in a cool place where we give prominence to the letter "R" (in our town's spoken language, most of the Tagalog words with letter "D" are replaced with letter "R"), and now living and working south of somewhere, with a very colorful life soundtrack. My videoke national anthem is "Goodtimes" by Edie Brickell I am shallow - a decent mug of tea with milk pleases me ; and I am deep - I usually trail socio-political news and issues especially when there is probe in aid of legislation (sabi sa inyo, malalim e ha ha). My personality is very much defined by my iPod music collection. I have a passion for singing and usually takes extra efforts to be discreet and resist the overwhelming urge to sing for hours. Don't worry, the mic still has a chance to leave my hand, when too-mainstream tunes come in.
